What AI consulting is

Full guideWhat does an AI consultant do?What an AI consultant does day to day

AI consulting is paid help to work out where AI can remove hours or errors from a business. The consultant decides which of those opportunities are worth the money, then builds or supervises the result. A good consultant also tells you when the answer is a process fix or an off the shelf product.

The work has three parts. Finding where the hours go, by sitting with the people who do the work. Deciding what is worth fixing, with a scored shortlist and a price for each item. Then building it against your real systems and teaching someone inside the business to run it.

At Zinto that means construction, trades, logistics, manufacturing and wholesale businesses with between ten and a few hundred staff. We are a consulting firm, not a software vendor, and we take no referral fees from any product we recommend.

Who it is for

AI consulting pays off when a few people spend ten or more hours a week each on repeated admin. The inputs must be consistent, and the business must already run systems worth connecting to. Keying orders, coding invoices, writing quotes and matching paperwork are the usual signs.

Under about ten staff it is usually not worth it. The owner does most of the admin, and the hours do not justify a custom build. When a well reviewed product already solves the problem for a monthly fee, it is not worth it either. In both cases we say so on the intro call.

If the person doing your most repetitive task got four hours a day back, what would they do with it? If the answer is obvious and useful, there is a case.

What AI consulting costs in Australia

Full guideHow much does AI consulting cost in Australia?Full pricing guide with day rates and project ranges

In 2026, senior AI consultants in Australia charge roughly $1,500 to $3,500 a day. A workflow audit or AI roadmap usually costs $1,000 to $10,000. A single automation build lands between $5,000 and $40,000, and a multi-workflow program between $50,000 and $150,000. Large firms sit above every one of those ranges.

Three things push the price up: inputs that are messier than anyone admitted, more systems than the brief said, and no measurement of the current process. Discovery surfaces all three before anyone quotes a build.

We scope after a free 30 minute call and quote discovery as a fixed price before it starts. The roadmap that comes out of discovery prices each recommended build. You know what execution costs before you commit.

How long a project takes

Full guideHow long does an AI consulting project take?Realistic timelines and what makes projects run long

A first engagement for a small or mid sized business typically takes eight to fourteen weeks from intro call to a first automation in production. Discovery takes two to four weeks, the roadmap about a week, and the first build four to eight weeks.

Projects run long for two reasons that have nothing to do with the technology. The inputs were messier than expected, or nobody inside the business owned the exceptions.

How to choose an AI consulting firm

Full guideHow do I choose an AI consulting firm? The questions to ask and the answers that must worry you

Choose a firm with work in your industry behind it, one that will sit with the people doing the work before quoting. It prices each stage fixed, takes no vendor referral fees, and can name a client whose project is still running a year later.

Be wary of anyone who recommends AI for every problem, quotes a build before discovery, or promises a specific saving before seeing your data. Ask what they told their last client not to build.

For a business under about five hundred staff, a boutique or an experienced independent is usually the better fit. Large firms bring depth you will not use at several times the price. If you are comparing software vendors instead, our guide on evaluating AI vendors for procurement covers the same questions for a product.

Consultant or in-house hire

Full guideShould I hire an AI consultant or build an in-house team?Consultant versus in-house team, with the numbers

For most businesses under about five hundred staff, a consultant to find and build the first two or three automations beats an in-house AI team. Add one internal operator who can run them. When that operator is at capacity, hire a dedicated engineer.

An in-house engineer costs $140,000 to $220,000 a year before superannuation and the months it takes them to learn your business. A discovery period and first build typically costs a quarter to a half of that, and the outcome is something running in production.

Generative AI consulting

Full guideWhat is generative AI consulting and do I need it?Generative AI consulting explained in plain terms

Generative AI refers to models that read and write language. In a business that means reading invoices, orders, quotes and site notes, drafting documents in your voice, and answering questions from your own records. It is the reason admin work that was impossible to automate five years ago is automatable now.

Generative AI consulting is finding the document heavy work that costs you the most hours and automating the first piece of it against your real systems. It also means designing the queue for the things the model is not sure about. A person approves the result every time.

What we build

Four pieces of repeated work that come up in almost every discovery. Each page covers what the automation does, when a product is the better answer, and what it looks like for real businesses. We also run an AI SEO agency, which we proved on our own site.

How it works

  1. 01

    Intro call

A short call to talk through your objectives, goals and timeframes, and agree what success looks like. No problem is too big or too small, whether that is construction estimation, materials procurement, job quoting or AI SEO.

  2. 02

    Discovery

We sit with your team for an extended stretch to understand your business, the systems you run and how the work gets done day to day.

  3. 03

    Roadmap

We put together a roadmap of action items, in order, that takes you from where you are today to what we agreed success looks like.

  4. 04

    Execution

We do the work, check it against the goals we set on the first call and do not call it finished until you are satisfied.

Questions

What does an AI consulting engagement with Zinto look like?

Four steps. A 30 minute intro call to agree what success looks like. A two to four week discovery period on site with your team. A priced roadmap of action items. Then execution, which is not finished until you say it is. Each stage is quoted fixed before it starts.

Do you work outside Sydney?

Yes. Discovery happens on site in every major Australian city, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Canberra, Newcastle, Hobart and Darwin. Roadmap and execution run as a mix of on site and remote depending on what we are building.

Do you sell software?

No. We build on the systems you already run, such as Procore, simPRO, Unleashed, MYOB and Xero. We take no referral fees from any product we recommend. If a product does the job, we tell you to buy the product.

What industries do you work in?

Construction, trades, logistics, manufacturing and wholesale. These are sectors where a few people carry a lot of repeated admin and the systems already in place are worth connecting to. Each has its own page on this site.

Is our data safe with an AI consultant?

It stays on your systems. Where commercial terms or client data are involved, we run the model privately inside your own environment so no document or question leaves the business. A consultant who cannot explain where your data goes is not one to hire.
